The rapid gentrification of Brooklyn's
Downtown and Fort Greene neighborhoods has left long-term residents without affordable supermarkets for several
years now, say members of the racial and economic justice organization Families United for Racial and Economic Equality (FUREE).

And with the construction of brand new luxury condominiums and rentals in the area - while
neighboring residents of the Ingersoll and Walt Whitman public housing developments have no local supermarkets or stores -
activists believe it is time for locals to demand better service.
